Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

Overview

The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) allows you to live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. 
This visa has two streams:
 
  • Graduate Work stream – this visa is granted for 18 months to recent graduates from an Australian university or other Australian educational institution (minimum of 16 calendar months study). The qualifications of visa applicants must be acceptable for temporary skilled migration. Please refer to the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
 
 
  • Post-Study Work stream – recent graduates holding at least a Bachelor qualification from an Australian university or other Australian educational institution. A visa in this stream is granted for approximately 4 years (dependent on the applicant’s qualifications).

Application Requirements

The main requirements are:
  • you must be younger than 50 years of age.
  • you must hold an eligible visa.
  • you must provide evidence of at least competent English. This means that you have achieved an overall score of at least 6 with a minimum score of 5 for each component in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test or equivalent results in another approved English language test, that has been undertaken in the three years immediately prior to lodging the visa application. 
  • you must meet the Australian study requirement in the last six months. This means that you have completed one or more degrees, diplomas or trade qualifications at a registered Australian institution. All instruction was conducted in English and the course was completed in a minimum of 16 calendar months.
